The beauty of the BuJo system is that it can take anything you throw at it and apply its mighty powers at full capacity, like a well-trained martial artist. Hi-ya! (Stay with me now.)
Well, let’s say you’re like me, and you just want to dive right into using your BuJo for EVERYTHING. The whole she-bang, yo. What does that look like? Or maybe you’re not like me, but you want to see the possibilities. You’ve come to the right place.
Here are my top go-to spreads for my Bullet Journals:
+ Daily Shenanigans
Simple; similar to Ryder Carroll‘s layout in his video. This primarily consists of tasks, events, notes, and the occasional appointment. Essentially, this is where all the things come in to play. This is homebase, where you can write down everything that comes to mind.
+ Reading Log
‘Cause, y’know, #bookwormlife. If you like manually drawing out the columns (any engineers in the house?), you can totally create your own. But if you’re the print and paste type, feel free to download your copy of the reading log template from the Hint of Jam Resource Library. + Event Planning & Personal Research
Special occasions that require particular attention — holiday parties, moving plans, travel itineraries — get their own special spread. The layout emerges from the occassion’s particular purpose, but they all tend to take this sort of column pattern.
Everything, BUT . . .
Okay, Jamae. I know you say you write everything in your Bullet Journal, but I know you use Evernote, too. Spill!
You’re absolutely right. There are a few things I keep in my Evernote account instead of my trusty BuJo. What are they?
– Recurring Lists
Groceries, Christmas lists, monthly intentions. Since these either don’t change or rarely vary, I keep these in Evernote instead of using precious paper estate on repetition. Plus, since I’m not ambidextrous, my poor hand can use a break from time to time.
– Novel Notes
When it comes to my WIP’s, my brain to hand coordination sucks can be frustrating ‘cause the thoughts zip past in the blink of an eye while my hands cramp up before the ink transfers onto the page. So you can see the issue that arises from manually taking WIP notes.
– Twitter Chat, Webinar, and Hint of Jam Website Records
Although I do record when to participate in Twitter chats / webinars and list out things that need to be done for Hint of Jam in my BuJo, the actual records (finances, lessons, etc . . .) are tucked into Evernote. Digital medium to digital notebook. Makes sense, ya?
However you use your Bullet Journal, make it work for you. Find inspiration in other’s layouts, mold it to suit your lifestyle, and rock the system. You got this, creative warrior!
